At Pioneers Hospital, our Mammography technologists are
accredited through the A.C.R. (American College of Radiology), which means
they meet the national requirements to ensure the highest standards of
care. The Radiologists that oversee the department also must meet the
same stringent
standards. Yearly continuing education is a requirement for maintaining
their licenses.
Our Mammographers use the LORAD M-3 instrumentation to perform the
mammograms. There are several services provided in this department.
Screening mammograms
are recommended for women biannually beginning at the age of 40, and yearly
after the age of 50. If you have a history of breast cancer in your family,
your provider will determine at what age and the frequency of your mammograms
for your situation. Our technologists also perform Diagnostic mammograms
under the supervision of the Radiologist. Diagnostic breast ultrasounds,
performed by the Radiologist, are also available at out facility. Needle
localization for biopsy is another procedure offered at Pioneers Hospital.
If an anomaly is seen on a mammogram or breast ultrasound, i.e. a lump,
the mammographic procedure of needle localization is performed prior to
the surgical
procedure.
